How to Sew a Rolled Hem Seam
How to sew a rolled hem seam with a standard presser foot. I use these all the time when making outdoor gear such as stuff sacks, backpacks, and other pieces where a finished, water resistant seam is needed.
Sewing a rolled hem seam is very simple! Start by folding the raw edges of your fabric over twice, which hides the raw edges of the fabric inside the folds. Just sew a straight stitch down the middle of the roll and you have a rolled hem seam! The beauty of this seam is that it requires no additional finishing because the raw edges of the fabric are hidden inside the seam.
I have found rolled hem seams to be very watertight. When using it with waterproof fabrics, I have run the seam under a steam of water and it hasn't leaked.
